AI Mode is a new tool in Google that will generate conversational answers to complex queries using AI. Using a custom version of the latest Gemini 2.5 model, it lets you ask nuanced questions that would have previously required multiple searches. AI Mode is particularly helpful for exploratory questions and for more complicated tasks like comparing products, planning a trip or understanding complex how-tos
People are using AI Mode to learn, explore or dig deeper by asking open-ended and follow-up questions. Inital tests show that adopters are asking questions 2-3 times the length of traditional searches.
When AI Mode is available, the option appears for users underneath the search bar much like an image or news search
By clicking on it you then open up a dialogue page to enable you to ask more detailed questions as per below:
